Perceived, I did, a gentle drop
Of water fallen from the top
Not of a high ambitious thing
But from the sky it filled my cup
For cover, was my first withdraw
The ground was mud before I saw
A ray between the cloud so high
It filled the scene with wondering awe
Twas gloom, I thought the rains should bring
Yet frogs they croaked and birds still sing
A different tune yet there they were
Still calling out to everything.
And then the smell, it crossed my nose
Nothing perfect I suppose
Yet something fresh, that enters clean
It combats other smelly foes.
Sitting wet from heavens tears
Was never good through all the years
Yet sitting under porch protection
Brings heavens beat into our ears.
I take my cup into my hands
And thank the Lord for all I have
For water fallen from the top
Is His great love, from our birthland.
Heaven’s Tears
